On the initiative of the International Geothermal Association (IGA), Uzbekistan hosted its first International Geothermal Forum, the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology reported on 11 February 2026. Relevant ministries and agencies took part, along with representatives of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology and its enterprises.

Presentations and discussion covered how leading countries use geothermal resources and underground thermal water to improve hot water supply, develop greenhouses and fish farming, and support additional industrial production.

Pilot projects agreed

The forum ended with an agreement to carry out pilot projects together, led by the Ministry of Energy with the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology and research institutes, with IGA support and funding from international financial institutions and grants.

It followed the IGA’s September 2025 meetings in Tashkent, where Uzbekneftegaz and the IGA agreed to form a joint working group to draft a geothermal roadmap.
