From 19 to 26 November 2025, a delegation from Uzbekistan’s key energy institutions made a working visit to France to learn about geothermal solutions for district heating, UzDaily reported on 11 December.
The delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Reconstruction and Development Fund, Uzbekgeofizika and the heat supply company Issiqlik Ta’minoti. They studied how geothermal resources are identified, developed and operated, and how they are integrated into urban heating systems.
BRGM, France’s geological survey, its engineering subsidiary CFG and other organisations ran technical seminars, field trips and in-depth discussions, introducing the delegation to France’s long experience of geothermal projects and how they are managed sustainably.
The visit was part of the “Energy Transition in Uzbekistan” technical assistance programme, funded by the French development agency AFD and implemented by Expertise France.
Why it matters
Uzbekistan is modernising its district heating systems on a large scale, and geothermal heat is one of the low-carbon options for diversifying its energy mix. The visit came between Uzbekgeofizika’s first steps towards a geothermal pilot in autumn 2025 and BRGM’s visits to Uzbek institutions in 2026.
